Wellington - is the southmost situated capital city in the World. It is located on southern edge of North Island. most of the city lays on Wellington harbour shore and rather steep slops. Although Wellington is the capital city has less inhabitants (179,463, year 2007) than larger Auckland.The population mix consists of: 70.2% European , 7.8% Maori, 5.2% Pacific Island, 13.0% Asian a 12.9% other.
Compact city centre is very easy to walk around. It's length is only two kilometers. Pedestrian zone "Cuba Street" serves as friendly oasis. Street is corded with restaurants with cuisine from over the world. Wellington has nickname Windy Wellington'. People do not even use umbrellas as in such windy weather are useless. Nearly each citizen of Wellington lives no more as three kilometers from sea.
Besides interesting "beehive" how parliament house is called you should not miss Te Papa Museum.
Wellington serves as ferry port for connection with southern island. International airport connects city with world.
I spent here several days thanks to friends who I met in Kerikeri and along unpaved road cycle to Sinclair Head.
