Custer State Park is situated at southeast part of Black Hills´region. In the north are the Needles - rocky spires. Park is famous for his 1 500 heads herd of buffalos. Annual Buffalo Roundup is public and free of charge. It serves to several purpose. First of them is to move herd into a system of corrals. Once in corrals, the animals are sorted . Most of them are released into park, while others are waiting in the corrals until an auction. The auction helps control the bison herd´s numbers and and provides a valuable resource of income for park.
